When it comes to refueling your mind and body, keep in mind that much like tending to your garden (which requires consistency, TLC and patience), you body often is craving even more loving attention and attention. After much experience and research, here are five quick strategies to refuel your spirit.
One: Drop your shoulders.
By dropping your shoulders, you send a signal to your body that it’s time to relax. Slowly release the tension that you may be feeling around you neck and upper back and gently begin to consciously pull the pressure (often tightness) out of that area.
Two: Lift the sides of your mouth (yes – smile).
Once your shoulders are relaxed, smile. Only good can come from smiling, as it relaxes your face and sends the feel good signals to your brain. Plus, did you know that smiling actually reduces stress in the body, which is usually one of the main reasons why we must refuel our energy!
Three: Take the deepest breath of your day.
Now, your shoulders and down and you’re smiling… it’s time to take the deepest breath you have taken all day – in through the nose and out through the mouth. Deep breathing actually decreases stress, leads to deeper levels of mental clarity and sends the feeling of calm throughout your body.
In thirty seconds (or less), you’ll notice a profound difference throughout your body and mind. Perhaps you will experience your thoughts moving more slowly. Maybe your head will feel lighter on your shoulders. You may even have the urge to laugh or drift off for a moment, dreaming about your favorite place to rest and relax.
